At the Cabin

I look out from our living room

As floorboards creak up overhead

My wife’s upstairs and I can tell

That she has just got out of bed

The heat is on and coffee made

Here in our cabin where we stay

I love that life slows down up here

As we get lost in simpler ways

We can relax and just distress

Not caring much to go back home

This place gives us what we both need

Our cabin made of logs and stone

When from our busy lives we fain

And days at work causes us to stress

We think of times we’ve come up here

To find peace after days of rest

Such joy this place to us does bring

Each time life starts to bring us down

We find the cabin in our minds

And go there to remove our frown

A place exists for each of us

That brings new thought and clarity

When we go there we know there’s not

A better place on earth to be
