Neath’ The Shade of The Pines

Sitting neath’ the pines, looking up towards the sky

How large they were then, from a young boys eyes

Still their beauty and wonder amaze me today

As I sit neath’ their shade, letting years melt away

How blessed I have been, to see nature this way

Through the eyes of a mother who loved each new day

And those Sunday drives when mom stopped and she’d say

“Oh, let’s go have a picnic over there in a shade”

And how fond are my memories of my God fearing dad

Each night he was there on bent knees by his bed

Even when those trips fishing sometimes made me mad

Now all my best memories are of fishing with dad

How clear my thoughts seem, when I come to this place

As I sit here once more, being cooled by its shade

Neath’ its arms I will rest, thinking back to good times

As I learn to touch heaven, neath’ the shade of the pines
