Our Hero Even Yet

Hero sitting at the airport

No one knows what you have done

Fallen brothers lost in battle

Know you are the lucky one

Camouflage and boots give notice

We observe but cannot know

What your mind and heart must carry

Even now as home you go

Thank you for your special courage

Fighting for our liberty

I pray God will bless you greatly

Where in this world you may be

Coming home can not be easy

Knowing how much you have lost

You gave us this place we cherish

Hero’s you all know the cost

Quietly, you sit observing

Watching all you’ve been without

Soon your welcome home and family

Should replace your fears and doubts

Looking back as you grow older

You’re our hero even yet

What our Hero’s once did for us

Know that we won’t soon forget

Inspiration

At the LA airport, I observed a soldier coming home from the war in Iraq
