A Thankful Heart and Nothing Less

Couldn't sleep, my mind was racing

Came down stairs to write my thoughts

Warmed some coffee, turned a lamp on

Pad in hand I picked my spot

Reminisced bout' all I'm thankful

Son I love that's kind and strong

And daddy's baby girl got married 

Glad a good man came along

Cherie, Gosh I feel so lucky

Tolerates who I've become

Almost thirty years next month

There is no doubt she is the one

Every day no matter where

I see clear signs the path I'm on

Though I choose which way to go

It matters not, where joy is strong

Even when the things I strive for

Don't work out just how I plan

I thank God for all life brings 

That helps me be a better man

Pray as I go back to sleep 

My mind this night can finally rest

Renewed as morning breaks upon

A thankful heart and nothing less
